In July of 2019 I was commissioned to create a mural for the Erie Zoo which would be sponsored by Toyota. The mural was to be created digitally in vector format, and then printed on weatherproof vinyl panels. It was installed on the side of the small animal room building in the children’s area. The building is located next to the llama/alpaca yard, and it houses small animals who are rotated and showcased in its window.
The client had no special requests for the design, so I came up with a couple of different ideas and sent sketches. My idea that got chosen was a red train, modeled after the red train that kids can ride around the zoo (it’s very popular!). The zoo train has numbered cars, so I decided to number the cars in my mural 1 through 5, and include that many animals in each car.
It was such a great project and I’m very happy with how it turned out! I also created a coloring page version – you can download the PDF here!
