This project, run by the Erie County Conservation District, is meant to educate the community about the benefits of harvesting rainwater, and to showcase Erie’s local art talent. ECCD commissioned 50 artists to paint rain barrels which will be placed in locations throughout the city. My sponsor for this project is the Humane Society of NWPA, so my barrel will be placed right outside their building.
I was thrilled to be creating my barrel for such a great organization. I came up with a design that incorporates cats and dogs of varying breeds scattered around the barrel, with paw prints in different colors and the Humane Society’s tagline, “Live. Love. Adopt.”, going across the front of the barrel. The colors of the barrel are in line with the Humane Society’s color scheme – light blue with jewel tone accents.
All of the rain barrels for this project were on display at the Home & Garden Expo of March 2016, and were then installed at their respective locations. My barrel can be seen in front of the Humane Society of NWPA.
